Team
building training is the process for building team relationships, for identifying and
removing a team's obstacles to success, and for learning team processes for effective
meetings,
decision-making, problem-solving and conflict resolving. There are many formats for teambuilding
training. We recommend the following approach:
1) Get the team's buy-in to doing team building training. Discuss it in a team meeting.
2) Assess your team. Get the dialog started among the team about the team.
What does the team see as the team's strengths and challenges?
What issues does the team want to resolve?
In what ways does the team want to improve?
Team Assessment is a great way to start the teambuilding training experience by getting
each team member on the same page about the team. Each team member completes an anonymous
team
assessment
online. The results for each question are averaged, and are also categorized into Plans
and Goals, Roles, Operating procedures, Interpersonal relationships, Individual Strengths
and General Effectiveness. Also, the teambuilding consultant may do some 1-on-1 interviews
with team members to clarify inputs. The team assessment lays a baseline against which
the team
can
compare itself several months down the road when they take the assessment again. Team
Assessments are
anonymous, and the results are reported averaged and in aggregate to the entire team
at the same time.
3) Results of Team Assessment are given to the team to discuss. The teambuilding discussion
focuses on "Is
this the team as we see it?" The team determines what it wants to improve and sets
goals for teambuilding training.
4) Provide teambuilding training workshop to meet the team's goals, including:
