Teambuilding - Team Assessments

Team Building Training

An anonymous team assessment is a great way to begin teambuilding training. It's a wonderful teambuilding tool for surfacing issues and perceptions and getting all the team's issues on the table, so that they can be discussed and resolved.

Each team member answers the 36 questions online, rating the team on a 5-point scale on how well it performs each dimension of teamwork. Anonymity is assured. The report prints additional written team-related comments verbatim.

The team assessment report gives the team's average answer for each question. The team assessment report also sorts the teambuilding results into 5 categories of teamwork—Plans and Goals, Roles, Operating Procedures, Interpersonal Relationships, Individual Strengths and General Effectiveness, giving an average number for each cluster of questions.  Since the answers are on a 5-point scale, 1s and 2s are weaknesses of the team, 3 is average, 4s and 5s are strengths of the team. The report lays a quantifiable baseline for teambuilding performance, which the team can use to measure its team development progress against through the years.

The teambuilding assessment report is given to all the team members at the same time. They then have a few minutes to read the team report to themselves and mark questions they want to discuss. Then the team goes page by page, discussing anything anyone wants to discuss. The questions to the team are:

  1. Is this an accurate representation of this team right now?
  2. Given that this accurately describes the team, what do we want to get better at?

The team then generates a list of teambuilding development goals.

A great teambuilder!
